The collaborative control of intake parameters coupled with pilot injection timing (PIT) can extend the working load range of pilot diesel injection (PDI) ignition natural gas engines with high efficiency and clean combustion. The author conducted the test under heavy load conditions where the engine speed was 1000 r/min and the indicated mean effective pressure was 1.7 MPa. Based on the experimental results of combustion and emission characteristics, the simulation results of the generation and consumption process of active groups as well as the chemical reaction kinetics analysis, the results indicate that increasing the intake pressure (pin) can improve the overall activity of the mixture in the cylinder, resulting in higher ITEg and lower emissions; the application of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) can inhibit the oxidation reaction of fuel and knock occurrence. High pin, suitable EGR rate, and advanced PIT can achieve high thermal efficiency and low total hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions. For example, when pin was 0.34 MPa, the EGR rate was 40%, the PIT was −4°CA ATDC, and the ITEg can reach 50.46%. Simultaneously, the total hydrocarbon emission was 3.99 g/kWh, the carbon monoxide emission was 2.75 g/kWh, and the nitrogen oxides emission was 0.42 g/kWh.
