This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides information related to experience with carbon brake quality-assurance rejected takeoff tests, and considerations regarding test setup, test conditions, test frequency and cost considerations. The practice of conducting recurring dynamometer Rejected Takeoff (RTO) tests to measure carbon brake performance is a result of issues with inconsistent stopping performance data between manufacturing lots of carbon heat sinks. Given the importance of achieving target stopping performance during an aircraft RTO event, as well as the high cost of each Quality Assurance (QA) RTO test, information related to QA RTO tests is useful in determining the most appropriate testing regimen to assure carbon brake RTO performance consistency.
