Emission regulation for diesel engines is now a global requirement and is becoming stringent over time, in which Europe and Japan are leading. In order to meet these severe emission requirements, such as those mandated in Euro-4 (2005) emission legislation and in Japan for their new long term's regulation. The use of exhaust gas after-treatment system or devices seems unavoidable. Many Engine builders (OEMs) have already formulated their own usage strategy for various after-treatment systems.Based on some of these after-treatment devices or system, either singular or in combination is going to directly impact the Engine Lubricants. This paper describes some of the Formulating Challenges and Impact the Oil and Additive marketers are likely to face to meet the Engine Builders and Emission requirement.
