The purpose of this report is to present various cases of design application of damping technology to spacecraft development. These cases illustrate various vibration problems for which damping was used as a design tool. The relative success and difficulties encountered are presented. Damping technology in application to spacecraft addresses several design problem areas. Vibroacoustics environment associated with launch vehicle noise is an area of interest of long standing. On-orbit S/C controls problems have also emerged as candidates for damping technology. Problems associated with precision pointing and constrained settling time from controls reorientation are finding similar controls design solutions are damping concepts. The cases presented are a progression from smaller elements to system design applications. (Author)
