A three-phase differential mode rectifier with non-inverting buck boost dc-dc converter modules is presented in this paper. The modules are connected differentially to three-phase ac grid and their outputs are connected in parallel to a common dc bus. The system can handle wide input-output voltage range, supports bidirectional power flow, ensures reliability and has a compact structure. The converter has modular design and the control of each phase module is independent, leading to a simple control structure. The paper explains the operating principle of the converter and its close loop control scheme. A proportional resonant controller regulates the grid current, and harmonic compensators help to eliminate grid current distortions. The system is simulated in MATLAB Simulink environment, and the simulation results show that the developed control system helps to achieve the desired dc voltage at the output and the intended grid current with unity power factor operation and low harmonic distortion. The tracking capability of the dc voltage controller is validated and the operation of the converter for different load power is demonstrated through simulation results.
