PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strike a balance between safe following traveling to a preceding vehicle or collision avoidance traveling and safety/energy-saving deceleration traveling toward a target stop point, concerning mainly a vehicle traveling in an urban area.SOLUTION: When an own vehicle during following traveling to a preceding vehicle enters a range capable of coasting to a target stop point such as an intersection located further forward than the preceding vehicle, the own vehicle stops the following traveling control to the preceding vehicle, and the deceleration traveling of mainly the coasting toward the target stop point is performed (where, in the interval other than the braking traveling while securing the relationship La>L1 between an inter-vehicle distance La between the own vehicle and the preceding vehicle and a safe inter-vehicle distance L1, namely, while performing necessary minimum braking traveling for collision avoidance).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
