PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly practical device for calculating a coefficient of friction between a tire and a road surface during travelling with a simple configuration, and a method for calculating the coefficient of the friction.SOLUTION: A road surface friction coefficient calculation device includes: a base member including means for detecting the amount of deformation; and a rigid body element connected to the base member.
