PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly practical device for calculating a coefficient of friction between a tire and a road surface during travelling with a simple configuration, and a method for calculating the coefficient of the friction.SOLUTION: A road surface friction coefficient calculation device includes: a base member including means for detecting the amount of deformation; and a rigid body element connected to the base member. A tip of the rigid body element is embedded in a part of an inner surface of a tire, which corresponds to a position of a tread of the tire.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
