The invention discloses a pole-climbing robot and a pole-climbing method thereof. The pole-climbing robot comprises a climbing rack, a climbing mechanism, an inclination adjusting mechanism, a balance assisting mechanism and a lifting driving mechanism. The two climbing racks are connected in a sliding manner, are driven by a lifting driving mechanism, and can relatively move up and down. And the cohesion claw body is arranged on the climbing rack. The two holding claw bodies on the two climbing racks can hold the opposite sides of a climbed pole body in the pole climbing process. The inclination adjusting mechanism comprises a telescopic transmission assembly and an inclination adjusting assembly. And the telescopic transmission assemblies are used for driving the ejector rods in the corresponding inclination adjusting assemblies to move outwards when the two climbing racks move relatively, so that the corresponding cohesion claw bodies are switched from a release state to a clamping state. Forces which are opposite in direction and staggered are applied to the climbed rod body through the two ends of the concave side faces of the holding claws, and the locking strength of the upper climbing rack or the lower climbing rack on the climbed rack is improved.
