The invention discloses a self-adaptive cruise main target selection method and device. The method comprises the following steps: estimating a motion track of a vehicle based on a yaw rate of the vehicle; correcting motion parameters of each target vehicle in a target range according to the motion trail; calculating a motion index of the target vehicle according to the corrected motion parameters; determining the driving state of the target vehicle by comparing the motion index with a corresponding index threshold value; determining a representative driving state of the current scene according to the driving states of all the target vehicles; according to the representative driving state, the target vehicle closest to the vehicle in the target vehicles meeting the corresponding driving state is determined as a main target, and the main target distance and the main target speed are output. According to the method, various variable factors are taken into consideration, correction of calculation in different scenes is refined, and the control precision and safety of the adaptive cruise system are improved.
