The invention belongs to the technical field of helicopter undercarriages, and discloses an efficient energy-absorbing buffer which comprises a low-pressure piston rod, a middle cylinder and a high-pressure piston rod, the low-pressure piston rod and the high-pressure piston rod are arranged in holes in the two ends of the middle cylinder respectively, and a cavity between the two holes of the middle cylinder is an oil pressing cavity; an outward inner cavity of the low-pressure piston rod is a low-pressure air cavity, an inner cavity, facing the middle cylinder, of the low-pressure piston rod is a low-pressure oil return cavity, the low-pressure oil return cavity and the low-pressure air cavity are separated through a low-pressure cavity floating piston, and the low-pressure oil return cavity is communicated with the oil pressing cavity through a low-pressure cavity throttling valve assembly. An outward inner cavity of the high-pressure piston rod is a high-pressure air cavity, an inner cavity, facing the middle cylinder, of the high-pressure piston rod is a high-pressure oil return cavity, the high-pressure air cavity and the high-pressure oil return cavity are separated through a high-pressure cavity floating piston, and the high-pressure oil return cavity is communicated with the oil pressing cavity through a high-pressure cavity throttling valve assembly. The efficiency of the buffer is improved to the maximum extent, the pressure of the oil return cavity and the pressure of the air cavity are basically the same in the falling process, and design of an overload protection device is facilitated.
