The embodiment of the invention provides a crane lifting mechanism braking system and a control method, the system at least comprises an encoder, a lifting mechanism motor, a brake, a speed reducer and a frequency converter, the frequency converter is respectively connected with the encoder and the brake, and the lifting mechanism motor is connected with a weight through the speed reducer; the encoder is used for measuring the position and speed of the lifting mechanism motor; the brake is used for controlling rotation and stop of the lifting mechanism motor; the frequency converter is used for outputting three-phase voltage through a wire to control a motor of the lifting mechanism to ascend and descend or keep a heavy object still, a protection mechanism can be added only by judging that a brake fails and adding specific software processing logic when power is off, major safety accidents are avoided, cost is not increased, and more protection is achieved.
