The invention relates to an automatic parking system and a control method of the automatic parking system. A system according to the present invention acquires, for each of a plurality of parking areas, a longitudinal number, which is the number of parking spaces arranged in a longitudinal direction. The number of idle parking spaces, which is the number of idle parking spaces, is acquired for each of the plurality of parking areas. An idle number threshold value, which is a threshold value for calculating an idle number of priorities of parking areas in which the automatic parking target vehicle is parked, is calculated on the basis of the longitudinal number. The priority is calculated such that the priority of the parking areas in which the number of idle parking areas is equal to or greater than the threshold value of the number of idle parking areas is higher than the priority of the parking areas in which the number of idle parking areas is less than the threshold value of the number of idle parking areas. The purpose of the present invention is to preferentially park a vehicle to be automatically parked in a parking space of a parking area having a high priority.
