The method comprises the steps that the current speed of a vehicle, the current speed of a front vehicle, the driving state of the front vehicle and the distance between the vehicle and the front vehicle are obtained, and in response to the fact that the current speed of the vehicle is larger than the current speed of the front vehicle, the conditions that the front vehicle is in an abnormal driving state and the distance is smaller than or equal to a first preset distance threshold are determined; acquiring a first target torque enabling the vehicle to run at a constant speed; acquiring a second target torque according to the first target torque, the current speed of the vehicle and the current speed of the front vehicle; and then the output torque of the vehicle is controlled according to the second target torque, so that the running speed of the vehicle is smaller than or equal to the running speed of the front vehicle. Therefore, a driver can be assisted in controlling the running speed of the vehicle, rear-end collision is avoided under the condition that emergency braking is not started, and meanwhile the problem that people in the vehicle are injured or feel uncomfortable due to the fact that the vehicle speed is suddenly changed due to emergency braking is solved.
