The embodiment of the invention provides a rope blocking mechanism for a cableway, and the mechanism comprises a rope falling prevention assembly, wherein the rope falling prevention assembly comprises a first transverse plate and a first longitudinal plate, the first transverse plate is in angle connection with the first end of the first longitudinal plate, and the angle is larger than or equal to 90 degrees and smaller than 180 degrees; the second end of the first longitudinal plate is connected with a cableway support, and the first transverse plate is located above a steel wire rope so asto prevent the steel wire rope from climbing over to the other side of the first longitudinal plate. According to the rope blocking mechanism provided by the embodiment of the invention, the first transverse plate and the first longitudinal plate are arranged at an angle according to the movement stroke track of the steel wire rope when the cableway breaks down, excessive jumping of the steel wirerope can be restrained, the steel wire rope is prevented from crossing the rope blocking mechanism to disengage towards the inner side of the wheel set, the safety coefficient of the wheel set is increased, and the cableway can run more safely under partial extreme conditions.
