The invention relates to an ornithopter and a method for controlling the same. The ornithopter comprises a gear transmission assembly (100), a power source (200), and a flying wing (300). The gear transmission assembly (100) is arranged on a fuselage of the ornithopter and comprises a first gear (101) and a second gear (102) which are symmetrically arranged along the center line of the ornithopterand engaged with each other on the matching side; the power source (200) comprises a first power source (201) and a second power source (202), and the first power source (201) and/or the second powersource (202) provide/provides power for the gear transmission assembly (100) so as to drive the first gear (101) and the second gear (102) to do reciprocating motion; and a flying wing (300) directlyconnected to the first gear (101) and the second gear (102) so as to move up and down within an angular range when the first gear (101) and the second gear (102) reciprocate.
