There are two scales when discussing the evaluation of customer loads. On the small scale the problem is to evaluate a specific customer or to compare the severity of two (or more) individual customers. On the large scale the problem is to evaluate the severity of a population of customers, or to compare the severity of two different populations of customers. this chapter discusses the principles of survey sampling and evaluates the uncertainty in a measured load severity, e.g. pseudo damage or equivalent load amplitude. It focuses on the assessment of the customer distribution by random sampling of customers. The chapter describes the customer distribution is built up by a model of the customer usage in combination with road classification, and highlights the vehicle‐independent load descriptions.
