This chapter reviews the incidence of bed bugs on two forms of mass transport: cruise ships and trains. While much of the attention to the bed bug resurgence has been focused on domestic settings and the hospitality sector, peripheral effects have nonetheless been felt in a range of industries, including various forms of mass transportation. The management and eradication of bed bugs on cruise ships can be an extremely challenging process. Many factors, such as the complex physical structure of the interior environment, the inherent limitations on passenger cooperation, and the transient nature of cruise ship itineraries, which limit potential pest management professional (PMP) assistance, can all challenge eradication efforts. Eradication strategies for bed bug infestations on modern cruise ships are limited for several reasons. The inappropriate handling of passengers exposed to bed bugs, and their belongings, can lead to the spread of an infestation within the ship, and a distinctly negative customer experience.
