Almost all electric drives and power converters in current industrial applications are controlled by PID controllers. The first section of this chapter presents introductory materials for PID controller design and cascade feedback control systems. Based on these control system structures, the remainder of the chapter systematically discusses electromechanical torque control, current control, velocity control, position control and DC voltage control for a power converter.
