This chapter explores the relationship between the electric vehicle (EV) and the infrastructure, discusses the differences between an EV and an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle in terms of infrastructure, and reviews the relationship between the mechanics of a battery EV (BEV) and their impact on the infrastructure considerations. It Identifies the differences between types of EVs and their charging infrastructure, and allows usage of applicable standards and regulations related to EVs and infrastructure. Charging hardware and interoperability standards have seen significant advancements and form the foundation for the charging infrastructure deployment. Battery swapping infrastructure can be fixed or mobile, allowing for differing degrees of scalability and agility. This is what contrasts one swapping strategy with another. Different strategies can extend to the battery itself. Swapping a single, complete battery is the simplest approach and will result in the shortest swap times.
