Both vehicle frequencies and pavement roughness are factors that may render the vehicle scanning method ineffective for bridges. In this chapter, both factors will be eliminated via the skillful manipulation of a two‐axle test vehicle. Namely, the effect of vehicle frequencies is removed by using the vehicle–bridge contact responses, and pavement roughness is removed by the residue of the front and rear contact responses of the two‐axle test vehicle. The chapter presents the VMD‐HT technique for construction of bridge mode shapes by a two‐axle test vehicle. It compares the mode shapes identified by the proposed method with the theoretical ones to verify its reliability. The chapter evaluates the effects of vehicle damping and speed, number of bridge spans, environmental noise, and pavement roughness. To identify bridge mode shapes, the VMD is adopted to decompose the contact responses, and the HT is adopted to construct the bridge mode shapes.
