Although there are many variations in GPS receiver design, all receivers must perform certain basic functions. We discuss these functions in detail. Receiver architecture and design choices are presented. Although there is a wide variety of GPS antennas, sometimes it is necessary to use a low‐noise preamplifier at the antenna. Various antennas are discussed (patch, dome, blade, helix, Choke‐ring, and phased‐array).
