In this chapter, the concept of mobile power electronics is explained with a general classification of this field. The history of mobile power electronics is briefly introduced and a few examples of mobile power electronics such as RF, optical, and tethered power transfer techniques are explained. Conventional wireless power transfer techniques such as inductive power transfer and capacitive power transfer are not dealt with here and will be introduced in Chapter 2.
