Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are drones that can fly by themselves. Under the general term, “UAVs,” drones, and micro and nano‐aerial vehicles all fall. The majority of unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, are made up of a central control unit that is attached to one of the multiple fans or propulsion systems to lift them into the air and move them around the sky despite being developed for and initially deployed by the military, UAVs are currently used in a variety of civilian applications, including surveillance, disaster management, fire‐fighting, border enforcement, and courier services. UAV applications in agriculture are particularly relevant in this chapter, focusing on their use in farming for animals and crops. This chapter covers the many UAV types and how they can be used for pest management, irrigating crops, checking animal health, rounding up livestock, setting up geofences, and other agricultural‐related tasks. In addition to their applications, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in agriculture offer several advantages and potential benefits discussed, along with business‐related obstacles and other unresolved issues that obstruct their widespread adoption in agriculture.
