Some systems need an authorization for operation and these authorizations can be based on a certification. However, the certification can be done independently on a used specific. A certification is based on an independent assessment and needs all the elements (documents, electronic files, analysis, tests) resulting from the product realization to be auditable and analyzable by an external team. This chapter first describes the normative concept in some industrial sectors (robotic, aeronautical, railway, automotive, nuclear), and then presents the aspects of assessment and certification.
