Urbanization has intensified complexity, underscoring the critical need for creative traffic management techniques in growing metropolitan areas. In this article, the integration of 5G technology, machine learning (ML), and vehicular‐to‐everything (V2X) communication for the transformative possibilities is addressed. The study clarifies how they cooperate to rethink frameworks for traffic prediction and management, resulting in improved efficiency, safety, and sustainability for urban transportation systems. The study emphasizes the significant role expected of 5G technology in transforming transportation infrastructure. It highlights the crucial role of V2X connectivity in enabling smooth interaction between vehicles and infrastructure. Vehicles and roadside units, pedestrians, and the network can easily communicate essential information with one another and with one other using V2X communication, enabling adaptive traffic control interventions and dynamic routing strategies. The study emphasizes that in order to maximize the benefits of smart transportation systems, research and development teams must work together to address important issues like privacy, cybersecurity, and sustainability.
