Vapor shippers, or dry shippers, are used on a daily basis to ship cryogenically preserved specimens between facilities. The vapor shipper should be filled and packaged in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. Advanced notice should be provided to the semen storage facility for shipment of frozen semen in order to ensure adequate time to clean and charge the vapor shipper. This chapter discusses the disinfection and filling techniques involved in preparing a vapor shipper. The shipping container must be maintained in an upright orientation or the vapor shipper will lose the liquid nitrogen charge and prematurely warm. All vapor shippers must be evaluated prior to the breeding season. This involves filling the shipper followed by daily evaluation of weight and temperature.
