Visual analysis components in the framework of beAWARE project are responsible for processing images and videos obtained from mobile, static and aerial cameras. This chapter examines relevant works that have employed visual analysis techniques in the domains of fire and flood detection in images and videos, object detection, traffic flow analysis, along with works that have employed UAV technologies in the field of disaster management. Evaluation of visual analysis is focused on the performance of the system in disaster detection, by evaluating the ability of the system to detect disastrous events in images and videos; object detection, so as to evaluate the effectiveness of the system in finding people and vehicles that exist in impacted locations; water level estimation, by evaluating the accuracy of the algorithm in determining the river level in order to timely raise a flooding alarm and finally; traffic analysis, with respect to vehicle tracking and speed estimation and anomaly detection.
