Wireless communications present new opportunities in numerous domains, notably in road domains where they enable interactions between vehicles and the transfer of information between road infrastructures and vehicles. This chapter describes the main characteristics of wireless communications in the domain of connected vehicles, differentiating in particular between direct vehicle‐to‐vehicle communications and vehicle‐to‐infrastructure communications. It discusses the main communication protocols valid for vehicles connected for short‐range or long‐range links. The chapter details the attacks that target the lowest layers of communication protocols, namely the physical and data link layers, and discusses the risks incurred in vehicular applications. Finally, it concludes with the methods of detecting these attacks and in particular those based on artificial intelligence.
