The use of the maturity method in concrete pavement construction is becoming popular for state departments of transportation (DOTs). An application of the technique is the opening of pavements to traffic. Research was done by the Kentucky DOT to identify the viability of this method. The application of the maturity technique to three fast-track concrete pavement repair projects is outlined. The chosen equipment, preferred instrumentation methodology, and lessons learned by department personnel are summarized. The results obtained to date show that the maturity approach can be used effectively in quality control and opening to traffic. However, close attention should be given to the limitations of the technique.
