Methods described in the literature have been presented for determination of the corrosion hazard caused by stray currents. 24-h characteristics have been presented of interaction with pipelines of randomly changing stray currents leading out of tram tractions. Results have been obtained by applying the correlation method of investigating stray currents, in which the asymmetry coefficient value of pipeline potential changes in relation to the stationary potential was used as the electrolytic corrosion hazard criterion. The presented characteristics were obtained on the basis of short-term measurement results lasting 30 min, performed consecutively one after each other during 24 h. The presented results can be used for long-term prognosis of the electrolytic corrosion hazard to pipelines on the basis of short-term measurements. The method of determination of the stationary potential value by linear regression of the potential voltage correlation dependency is sufficiently accurate for technical requirements. No sensitivity to the presence of the IR ohmic voltage drop of the stationary potential value, as well as the asymmetric coefficient, is a useful feature due to the method of realisation of field measurements.
