Applications of steel in the automotive industry, in cars, vans and trucks, are reviewed from the perspective of the vehicle user, the vehicle maker, the component manufacturer, and the steel industry. Factors, which will drive changes in the automotive industry are discussed. The automotive industry and its supply chain must achieve cost effective and technologically appropriate material selection decisions. Influences on the materials selection process are examined.
