The special features of duplex stainless castings in comparison to wrought materials are described. In a series of tests the corrosion and mechanical properties of 1.4515 and 1.4517 and the cast super-duplex steel 1.4469 were evaluated in 30 and 100 mm sections. Welding reduced CPT and toughness depending on heat-input, with best properties at low heat-input. A post-weld heat treatment did not completely restore the original properties, especially in 1.4469. In a comparative evaluation of 11 austenitic and duplex steels for CCT and CPT in 3 % NaCl and of flanges in a loop test with chlorinated natural sea water, the cast super-duplex steel Märker G 4469 performed extremely well and achieved in the overall ranking the best corrosion resistance of all materials tested.
