Modern automobile manufacture demands light, high-strength, highly formable steels to meet current weight-reduction requirements. This paper describes the development and properties of several currently available steels, three of which are low carbon, aluminium- or aluminium/silicon-killed steels which are grain-refined and precipitation-strengthened by niobium, one of which is a silicon/aluminium-killed, niobium-microalloyed dual-phase steel, and two of which are microalloyed, rephosphorized steels. The detailed laboratory simulations used to establish optimum, continuous annealing parameters for commercial production are described and discussed. This article is translated in Russian too.
