The use of high strength steels in automobiles will increase in Europe as new continuous annealing lines come into use. However these lines must be able to maintain the steels' properties within narrow tolerances. The significant implications of the mechanical properties of high strength steels is discussed with respect to formability, springback, weldability, paintability and corrosion resistance. The performance of high strength steels with regard to crash behavior and denting and buckling resistance, as well as repairability, is also presented. This article is translated in Russian too.
