Corrosion properties of Al-Cu alloys for vacuum brazing materials were investigated. Al-Cu alloys are free from intergranular corrosion and may be protected from corrosion cathodically by 3003 fin alloy and 4004 filler alloy, because alloys containing Cu have greater noble electrochemical potential. Also, pure aluminum may be used as a sacrificial anode and retains its anodic effect after vacuum brazing because it contains no volatile elements such as the Zn in Al-Zn alloy, a material commonly found in aluminum alloys for sacrificial anodes.
