Short notice given only substantially as follows: A self-adhesive cloth tape is described in US Patent 5 698 477 by its two Japanese inventors. Sliontec Corp of Kanegasawa and Sumitomo Wiring Systems Ltd of Yokkaichi claim that their adhesive cloth is suitable for anchoring arrays of wires, such as found in automobiles. The Patent says the tape has a lengthways tensile strength of 8 kgf/l9 mm or more. A woven cloth about 0.2 mm thick is used which has a strength in warp and weft directions of about 80-200 g. It adds that the cloth and adhesive should both be flame resistant. Further, if the cloth is based on either spun or textured filament yarns it will provide additional cushioning. The back of the fabric is coated with the adhesive together with an unwinding release paper such as silicone. Normally, the fabric will be a simple plain weave of 27 ends and picks/cm (68 ends and picks/inch). The warp is 40s cc and the weft 20s cc. This simple self-adhesive fabric is easily torn. Commonly in modern equipment, particularly in automobiles, there are often many wires and cables that need to be secured. This problem may be solved in several ways such as using touch-and-close ribbons, self-adhesive tape or even simply some form of tying. However, there are times when the array is spread out and, if left unanchored, may flutter or cause an irritating noise.
