This paper presents the Aircraft Maintenance Event Ground Station (AMEGS) development efforts associated with the drive train vibration monitoring of the Bell-Boeing V-22 tiltrotor aircraft. During the past year (1998) a significant amount of work has been accomplished in preparing requirements and algorithms for dynamic component monitoring (DCM). Vibration data analysis algorithms are a major part of DCM diagnostics, which are derived from processing the airborne unit downloaded data in AMEGS. Diagnostic indications (faults) are presented to the aircraft maintainer in a brief textual format with detailed descriptions available when selected in the ground station. For most faults, fault codes are available that index into documented maintenance procedures. Each fault is associated with a drive system component or assembly monitored on board the aircraft with dedicated vibration sensors. Faults are also categorized as (a) automatically diagnosed faults and (b) diagnostics requiring the maintainer's review before determining and deciding on the maintenance action. The paper discusses DCM algorithms, the download preprocessing, the local structured data base, limit exceedence filtering, and processing of trend data. In summary, this paper provides an overview of the dynamic component diagnostics approach along with recent accomplishments.
