An account is given on the benefits and limitations of commercial software insertion into a weapons control system, specifically as seen in development of the Advanced Tomahawk Weapons Control System (ATWCS) Track Control Group Replacement (TCGR). It is emphasized that lessons learned in the production of the first Commercial-Off-The-Shelf/Government-Off-The-Shelf (COTS/GOTS) weapon system are useful to the smooth, efficient development of future weapons system software.
