The Marble Hill nuclear plant in India was the site of the successful first-ever indirect, gas-fired, radiantly heated annealing of a nuclear reactor. This demonstration project used a computer simulation to validate the process in advance. The success of the project proved that aging reactor vessels can be rejuvinated and their operating life substantially extended, permitting old reactors to continue operations for many years.
