The Institute of Oceanography of the National Center for Marine Research (NCMR) designed a monitoring and forecasting system called POSEIDON to develop the Greek operational oceanography and improve environmental surveillance, sea transport, and port management. The installation and implementation of the POSEIDON system is undertaken by the OCEANOR ASA on behalf of NCMR. The overall control and supervision of the POSEIDON system is exercised from the operational center at NCMR. The center is equipped with hardware for the remote connection with the POSEIDON network and software for data processing, storing, quality control, correction, and dissemination of the processed data to the end-user.
