Mentor Project Engineering has developed a methodology for upheaval buckling assessment called Download Monitoring System (DMS). DMS uses the finite element analysis software for pipelines SAGE PROFILE to optimize the back fill and/or rock dump required to prevent upheaval buckling for the entire pipeline, without the need for repetitive analysis. SAGE PROFILE can account for loading due to self-weight, residual lay tension, point and distributed loads, prescribed loads and displacements, and internal pressure and temperature distributions.
