The Unit 9 generating unit of Gorgas generating plant's five steam condensers was considered for tube replacement. It is a 185 MW coal fired unit with a Foster Wheeler double pass steam condenser. The company used 304 stainless steel for retubing. However, the cleanliness factor on this condenser started to degrade after only a few months of operation. This problem was resolved by mechanically cleaning the condenser tubes with a condenser tube gun.
