To maintain and improve the stealth capability of next generation US submarines, a system vision called Collaborative Signature Monitoring and Control (CSMC), has been proposed. CSMC applies and integrates active noise and vibration control (ANVC) to the entire submarine, providing global acoustic signature control. Key system features are: a high-speed large throughput low time latency data distribution network linking all sensors, processors and actuators within minimal cabling; common scalable open architecture ANVC controllers as multi-input/multi-output control filters for each subsystem; and commonality in components to reduce life cycle costs and increase system reliability. Several other aspects and issues related to CSMC are discussed.
