The elastic follow-up between elbows or between an elbow and a straight pipe have to be considered in piping systems without bellows expansion joints at elevated temperature. In piping systems containing bellows expansion joints, the bellows expansion joints take an important part of the elastic follow-up behavior of the piping systems, since the rigidity of bellows is much less than those of elbows and straight pipes. In this paper the characteristics of elastic follow-up of piping systems with bellows expansion joints are discussed by using some simple Z-shaped piping systems and an evaluation method of elastic follow-up behaviors of piping systems with bellows expansion joints is proposed. The assumption of bellows expansion joints as bending springs must be the simplest way, however, the creep behavior of bellows cannot be treated. In the proposed method Norton's law is introduced to express the bellows material creep properties and the meridional bending stress in bellows is assumed dominant in order to deal with the bellows convolution dimensions directly. According to this method, the elastic follow-up behaviors of piping systems due to bellows creep deformations and the changes of bending moment of the pipe can be evaluated.
