A systematic approach was followed to identify optimal vehicle weather seal configurations for low aerodynamic noise transmission. The frequency averaged noise reduction associated with several seal profiles and coatings was measured in a laboratory environment for a wide range of control factors and noise factors. Component tests using a fixture allowed a large number of configurations to be cost-effectively evaluated. The use of statistical methods to select the experimental configurations to be tested also reduced costs and efforts.
