Mechanical damages including dents and cracks to pipes occur frequently, which results in the need of reassessment. Reliability-based analysis is necessary to properly account for the uncertainties. Bursting of damaged pipes resulting in pipe rupture may happen if the critical burst strength is exceeded by maximum hoop stress. This paper proposes an approach for calculations of burst strength of dented pipes with cracks. Comparisons of predicted burst strength based on the approach presented in the paper and test results are made and a good agreement is observed. Burst reliability model of damaged pipes is developed and then applied to evaluate an existing dented pipe.
