The concept of CO2 injection and dispersal in mid-ocean depth is based on the way of thinking that the environmental impacts due to ocean disposal of CO2 could be minimized because of the rapid dilution of dissolved CO2 in large volumes of sea water. Using a moving ship with vertical pipe for CO2 injection as presented here is thought to be an effective engineering approach. In this paper, first, the conceptual design of the system is outlined, and the technical feasibility and the possible difficulties to be solved are presented. Then the expected scenario how the injected CO2 behaves in the near-field of the discharged point is discussed. After a period of time, the CO2 dissolved sea water may be diluted only by vortex diffusion in mid-ocean, therefore, the human efforts to drive the dispersion and dilution of CO2 just after injection are essential to decrease the environmental impacts. The target of the early CO2 dilution shall be one to some thousands, whose attainability is discussed. Experimental and simulation studies to clarify the CO2 behaviour are proposed.
