The Ti-6-22-22S alloy was developed to provide high strength and good fracture toughness for heavy sections in aircraft structures. It is stronger than the conventional Ti-6Al-4V alloy and has better damage tolerance. Furthermore, the sheet can be formed at room temperature and has excellent superplastic forming characteristics. The addition of Si enables the alloy to retain its strength up to moderate temperatures.
