In the automotive industry, there are five emerging technologies which include advanced materials, energy conservation, internal combustion engines, emission control, and advanced manufacturing. Of the five technologies, advanced manufacturing holds promise for the traditional automotive regions. In order to determine the core technologies likely to emerge as major industrial and business subsectors within the next ten years, information was collected from a variety of publications. Despite some restrictions, a significant amount of data was obtained. The five major categories emerged, into which new technologies applicable to the auto industry can be grouped according to their purpose.
