A Task Force under the auspices of ISO, The International Organisation for Standardisation, is working to draft a standard to facilitate the transmission of vehicle data related to emissions, safety and security functions from remote sources to a vehicle requiring modification. Specifically the standard is to provide protection from unauthorised interception and alteration of the data. This paper describes the need for the standard and its provisions. The draft standard bears the number ISO 15764. It extends the provisions of ISO DIS 15031-7 and is thus entitled Extended Data Link Security.
